The 13 years to Adult Learn to Sail.
This course is held in the Club’s Pacer Dinghies, initially with a coach in the boat with two trainees. Once the trainees gain some confidence, the coach will move out of the Pacer and into a rescue/coach boat.
A preparatory evening to meet each other and cover some theory will be held on Friday 18th November, 7 – 8.30pm, prior to the first on water session.
Three on water sessions are planned for Saturday mornings, Saturday 19th Nov, 26th Nov, and 10th December from 9am until 12 noon. The Cost will be $180 and will include insurance through Australian Sailing and trainee membership of the Kingston Beach Sailing Club.
The course will cover basic sailing and seamanship techniques, and the level reached will depend on the aptitude of the student. There is also an opportunity for private lessons at a time determined by you and the coach.
This is a wet course, and students will need to dress appropriately, and be able to swim 25 metres unaided. PFDs (lifejackets) will be provided if you don’t have one yourself. A wetsuit is ideal, or failing that, thermals, spray jacket and shorts. Some sort of footwear that can get wet is recommended (eg reef walkers, wetsuit boots, old sandshoes). Remember that it will be cold, especially with the wind chill factor if you are wet. A beanie is good, as much heat is lost from the head. Don’t forget dry clothes to get back into after the class, and a towel. Showers and change rooms are available at the club and the canteen is open for lunch on Saturdays.
You will have fun, and learn skills that will stay with you well into the future.
