Noreen Hay MP advises of Clubhouse Grant

I am very excited to announce that we have been successful in our application for a Community Building Partnerships grant for the upgrade of our clubhouse. Member for Wollongong, Noreen Hay MP, advised the club that $10,000.00 will be provided for an awning and general upgrade work.more

Twilight Racing Starts Friday

With the onset of daylight saving so starts our Friday evening Twilight races. These fun and relaxed sails over a 6 mile course generally last about 1 hour. Start time 6pm.more

2014 JB Challenge

An invitation is extended to interested skippers and their crews to compete in the JB Challenge on the beautiful waters of Jervis Bay. The JB Challenge is an annual event organised by the Jervis Bay Sailing Club Inc. in association with the Jervis Bay Cruising Yacht Club Inc.
This year the event will be conducted over the weekend of the 1st and 2nd of November 2014.more

Extended 40 knots

Stephen had forwarded an email too in list of a crew for passage to sail to Kiama. for an overnight stay then return to Wollongong the next day. As usual I jumped in the car drove down to the Gong on the Saturday to find it was blowing (which I sort of knew it would be but as Stephen was going ahead then it must be ok). Stephen had two takers for the run down to Kiama, Maxine and myself.more

New Sunday Social starts 11am 6 July

Commodore's Report for 2014

The past year has been a big year for Wollongong Yacht Club. After 45 years the club finally has a home with our takeover of the old coastal patrol building. This is a major achievement and the flow on effects are apparent - Peggy our club tender arrived last August, our membership has now grown to 71 members ( I remember when it hovered around 40) with 17 new members in the last 12 months.more

Changes to Calendar for May and June 2014

Our sailing calendar was incorrect in that the pattern of the Sunday race being every fortnight was broken at Easter. This causes a lot of problems for some members so the committee has decided to correct the calendar for May and June so we are sailing on the same fortnight.more

AGM Date UPDATED

Due to the Seafood and Sail being held in March and taking up all our time we have decided to push the annual general meeting back to April dinner. But then it clashes with Easter so instead of the third Friday of the month the dinner and AGM will be held on Friday 16th May 2014.more

Membership

There is a Casual membership form for people trying sailing with WYC. The fee of $20 covers two races after which you decide to become a full member. This fee covers the normal $5 race fee that would be paid by the boat owner.more

Liquor License

Well Wollongong Yacht Club now is licensed under the control of our licensee Capt'n Ken. Last year we received our limited license which allows us to serve alcohol at 52 events during the year.
So from now on no BYO. This applies to beer and wine. We have a good selection of beer and wine for sale at reasonable prices, so support the club and drink responsibly.more
