Notes from "Racing Rules of Sailing" Seminar
held at Largs Bay Sailing Club on 16th September 2011

(members of Yachting SA Race Officials Committee.


Rules & Tactics you should know to sail fairly and win races.
Topics include rules you should know that apply when racing and what you should do
to avoid a collision and gain a tactical advantage over other boats.

For ease of understanding the race is divided into the following parts:
1.      Preparing for racing.
2.      Prestart information and rules that apply
3.      During the start sequence and immediately after the start signal.
4.      On windward legs and at windward marks.
5.      On reaching and running legs and at wing and leeward marks.
6.      Approaching, crossing and after the finish line.
7.      Summary - Advance planning for control of developing incidents.
8.      Why, when and how to lodge a protest. (Subject to time)
