Largs Bay youth sailors qualify for 2011 International Cadet Worlds in Germany

Largs Bay youth sailors, Cameron Philcox and Cody Groat have qualified to represent Australia at the 2011 International Cadet World Championship to be sailed in Germany.

Cameron Philcox's love and commitment to sailing has paid off by his making the Australian Youth Sailing Team.
Cam has been sailing since the age of 7, when he crewed for his grandfather , Leon Simms in a Heron.  He moved to sail Holdfast Trainers and then progressed to sail his International Cadet named “X-T-Sea”.

The Cadet is a two-person dinghy for youth aged between 7 and 17. The Cadet is sailed in more than 18 countries on 4 continents and is one of only two classes (the other being the Optimist) that are recognised by the
International Sailing Federation as an international youth sailing class.

Cameron and crew Cody Groat this season qualified for the International Cadet State Team along with other Largs Bay sailors Henry Leitner & Alex Pisani and Nick Neale & John Gordon. The group travelled to Sandringham YC in Victoria over the Christmas - New Year period to compete in the Cadet National Championship.
Sean Keen and Oscar Mitton from Adelaide SC won the regatta while Cameron and Cody finished in 6th place and all the Largs boats finished in the top 12 boats out of a fleet of 73 boats.  For the first time in the 50 year history of the Intl. Cadet the South Australian sailors also won the “Best State Team” Trophy.

During July 2011, the International Cadet World Championship regatta will be sailed at Kühlungsborn in Germany.
This regatta will bring 400 sailors with 200 boats from 18 countries to sail 12 races over 10 days to find the Intl. Cadet World Champion of 2011 among them.
The top 7 Australian boats from the Nationals are selected to represent Australia, so this means that Cameron and Cody qualify to sail in the World Championship.

Saturday, 5th March 2011 at the Largs Bay Sailing Club.

The opportunity to represent Australia in International competition is something that doesn’t happen often and it will be a wonderful experience, but comes at a large cost. The Philcox family will be holding a Fundraising Dinner at the Largs Bay Sailing Club on the 5th March at 6.00pm. It will be a “Snitzel and Strudel” night at a cost of $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for children.
The funds raised will go toward the boat charter in Germany, plus boat Insurance and coaching costs.
If you are able to come along your support will be appreciated; maybe make up a table of 10 friends.

To book just call Jock (Ph 0417 772 445) or Lou (Ph 0431 991 530) or email to
