2009 Shoot the Breeze Squad Program

Dear Youth and Junior sailors,

I am writing to provide a brief explanation of our plans for the 2009 year. The committee has made some changes to the structure of this year's program based on feedback received regarding last years squads.

Shoot the Breeze has taken a decision for 2009 to conduct a Youth Squad for sailors in the Yachting Australia youth classes only, namely Laser Radial, International 420, International 29er, Bic Techno and Hobie 16.

A second squad (name to be determined) is planned which will only include sailors in the International Cadet class. (Yachting Australia preferred Junior Class) The level of coaching for this squad is aimed to be of an equivalent high standard to the Youth Squad, but tailored to suit the younger age level of some participants.

The aim of these changes is to improve the quality of the programs by having fewer members, fewer classes, sailors of similar ages and abilities and more class specific coaching in each squad. These plans may yet be revised depending on coach availability and number of applicants. Applicants will be given more comprehensive information about the programs when offers of squad membership are made.

The aim of the squad based part of Shoot the Breeze's programs is to provide support to sailors at the top end of the fleets. Shoot The Breeze plans to support all other sailors and junior and youth classes by assisting the class boat associations in organising and running class based training programs.

Sailors in the Yachting Australia youth classes and the International Cadet (YA Junior Class) are encouraged to complete an application form and submit it to Yachting SA by close of business on the 22nd of April 2009.
