LBSC Commodore's Reports 2008-2009
Largs Bay Sailing Club
Commodores Report May 2009
Where did that sailing season go? Opening day was on the 11th October and next thing you know it’s the 4th of April and time to put the boats away! Well for some of us anyway.
We had a good year on the water. Numbers were down but the racing program was smooth sailing. The rescue boats ran well this year which was a bonus and thanks to Carters Mechanical and the extra know how of the regular crews on board. Thanks to all who helped out over the season on and off the water. Things went well and we were blessed with good racing conditions on most occasions.
Arrangements are now in motion for prize night on the 16th of May. Be there at 7.00 for 7.30 and BYO basket supper. Nautilus Marine Insurance Agency has also kindly donated two comprehensive insurance vouchers to the value of $250 each to be awarded on prize night.
With only prize night and the AGM to go in relation to this sailing season, you would think things have quieted down, but this is not the case! We have a steering committee in place which has been working endlessly with the Heron and 420 Class Associations for their upcoming National titles this year and the really big one;The Australian Youth Championships in January 2010. We are working closely with Yachting Australia and there will be some significant announcements in the near future in relation to the scope of this series. More will be revealed at the Annual General Meeting on Sunday 26th July.
I mentioned in the February report about some of the senior sailors taking a mentoring roll for next season with our junior sailors. I hope that this concept is something that the club embraces as this will assist our less experienced sailors in developing their sailing and social skills.
I believe also a winter series is being organized and expect that there will be an announcement in this publication and full details loaded on the web site.
As I have much to report on the 2008/09 season and what on in 2009/10, I invite you to attend this AGM where I will be delivering a more comprehensive report on the season just gone and whats in store for so far for 2009/10.
PS: Congratulations to Paul Bull and Kerry Beswick, married on Saturday 2nd May at the Largs Bay Club.
