Tamar Yacht Club - Annual Awards

The annual awards of the Tamar Yacht Club are open to nominations from Club members throughout the year, of people whom that member considers worthy of such award. The awards will be decided upon by the Flag Officers of the Club, based upon the nominations received throughout the year.
 
All nominees must be financial members of the Club. There is no restriction as a grade of membership. The following are the awards for which nominations will be received, together with their corresponding selection criteria.
 
The decision of the Flag Officers will be final. There is no appeal process available for results. 
 
Nominations will be received by the Club, addressed to the Flag Officers, in the form of a brief letter stating the name of the member being nominated, the award nominated for and the reasons for nomination. Where appropriate, the specific selection criteria should be addressed.
 
Yachtsman of the Year
The Yachtsman of the Year Award is presented annually to a yachtsman, who has achieved results at a State/National/International& level, and has demonstrated a high level of skill and expertise in their discipline. Selection Criteria:
1. Actual race results with particular regards to:
  • Score sheet position
  • Significant of event
  • Depth of competition.
2. Overall consistency in performance
3. Versatility or scope of
4. Degree of inspiration to others both on and off the water
5. A role model to others in the sailing community
 
Junior Yachtsman of the Year
The Junior Yachtsman of the Year Award is presented annually to a yachtsman 18 years old or younger on the opening day of the Club's current season, who has achieved results at a Club/State/National/International level, and has demonstrated a high level of skill and expertise in their discipline. Selection Criteria:
1. Actual race results with particular regards to:
  • Score sheet position
  • Significance of event
  • Depth of competition
2. Noticeable improvement in performance during the year.
3. Overall consistency in performance.
4. A role model to others in the sailing community.
 
Club man of the Year
This award is presented annually to any person of any membership grade who is in the opinion of a member has performed above and beyond the call of duty normally required of a Club member
Selection criteria:
The Club man of the Year should be someone who:
  • Is a role model for the club
  • Puts in extra time and effort
  • Always there to help and assist
  • Acts in the best interest of the club
  • Volunteers time freely, not for financial gain
Junior Club man of the Year
This award is presented annually to a junior member of the Club who is 18 years old or younger on the opening day of the Club's current season, who in the opinion of a member has performed above and beyond the call of duty normally required of a junior club member.
Selection Criteria:
The Junior Club man of the Year should be someone who:
  • Is a role model for their peers
  • Puts in extra time and effort
  • Always there to help assist
  • Acts in the best interest of the club
Patron's Outstanding Achievement Award
The Patron's Outstanding Achievement Award in presented annually to a person of any membership grade who in the opinion of a member has made an outstanding achievement in relation to the Tamar Yacht Club. Although there is no specific selection criteria the achievement may be in the area of sailing performance, service to the Club, or other area of significance to the Club.
 
Cruising Yachtsman of the Year
The Cruising Yachtsman of the Year Award is presented annually to a senior member of the Club who has undertaken a significant cruising achievement, within the context of the Tamar Yacht Club and/or represented the Club in various locations outside of Tasmania.
Selection Criteria:
  • Significance of the cruising achievement to the Club
  • Geographic extent of the cruise
  • Duration of the cruise (may be cumulative years)
  • Ongoing input as a Club member
  • Degree of difficulty of the cruise

Motor Boat Licence Courses - Our 2018 courses will commence in February.  Available dates:

Saturday 3rd February from 9:00am - 3:00pm

Saturday 17th February from 9:00am - 3:00pm

Sunday 18th February from 9:00am - 3:00pm

 

These courses fill up quite quickly so don't be surprised if you can't get in straight away. Please submit Expression of Interest, and Enrolment form to the Office at 7 Park St Launceston. For futher information please read the FAQ page.
