A Tradition of Excellence
Since 1837, Tamar Yacht Club has provided members with the best competition, social, on-water and clubhouse facilities in Northern Tasmania. As the oldest yacht club in the Southern Hemisphere, members enjoy the benefits of the resources and advantages that only a long established club can provide.
People have many reasons for joining the Tamar Yacht Club. Keen sailors and power boaters mix with those who join for the social aspects of the clubs and the chance to make new friends. Experienced sailors have the opportunity to skipper or crew, from dinghies to ocean racers. Novices have opportunities to learn, and gain recognised qualifications on all sizes of boats. Friends, supporters and retired sailors can enjoy the great social atmosphere at either our Launceston or Beauty Point Clubhouses.
You do not need to own a boat, or even have sailed previously.
Members have access to club facilities such as:
Slipping and Yard Facilities
Sailing and Race Program
Regular Sail and Boating Training Programs
Clubhouses at Park Street, Launceston and Wharf Road, Beauty Point
Subsidised member's bar
Member's dinning room at the Park Street Clubhouse with the best views in town
As a member you are encouraged to invite friends and family to either of the club sites.
Children love sailing and are encouraged to join our sail training programs. The Tamar Yacht Club has a large fleet of club owned training boats, including Optimist, Sabot, Flying 11's and Pacer class dinghies.
When joining as a family, you have the added benefit of a discounted family membership with the club and interacting with our sailing families.
The Tamar Yacht Club's Small Boat Sailing Squadron conducts a full sailing program and training sessions in a safe, supportive and friendly environment. These sessions are conducted by qualified instructors and overseen by the clubs fleet of race management and rescue boats.
Sailing is that rare sport that brings people together and has a role for everyone, regardless of their age. You can truly sail for life.
The Tamar Yacht Club operates a full sailing calendar, with around two hundred individual race starts each year, from junior beginner's dinghy races to offshore events and Australian Championship Events.
Learning to Sail:
