 Race Report - 16 April 2011

While most boats were expecting a light south easterly wind, the weather kicked in just prior to the start with a 12 - 15 Knot easterly, which in turn had the fleet rethinking their wardrobe and tactics for the afternoon.   A course down to Roundtop island, and back was a good choice under the conditions, and the fleet got away to a clean start.

With the fleet beating down to the first mark, it was clear that the racing was going to be close, with the smaller, trailer-sailers mixing it well with the bigger boats.  Upmarket (Tom Jordan) and Daddy Long Legs (Jim Garner) and Kickatinalong (Graeme Poole) were having a good battle, while up ahead The Poacher (John Foster), Guided Missile (John Rae) and Delher Magic (Greg Tobin) were having a similar fight for supremicy.

Once the fleet were around the island and on their way back it became clear that spinnakers were going to be marginal on the tight reach, although, as the wing mark got closer, more spinnakers appeared.  Nemesis (Troy Neilsen) cleared away at the front, enjoying the conditions and the downwind angles to perfection, and went on to a convincing win.

Further back in the fleet, Checkmate (Don Bowden) and Rebel (Col Clarke) were performing well, in conditions that would be quite trying in the smaller boats, with Mystery (Bill Hopton), sailing short handed, and Foxtrot (Jim Kirchner) not far away.

The final leg was a tight reach back to the harbour, with all boats finished by 1700 Hrs.

On corrected time, Nemesis made it look easy, however, the results between 2nd and 10th show how close the racing was, with any mistake on board being quite measurable.

Social Sailing at MYC 2018

Social sailing is an activity that the club runs on some Saturdays throughout the year. This is something the anyone can participate in.

Further details are available under Sailing in the main menu above.

We meet at the marina at 12 noon and are usually back in by 4. So if you want to join us contact Bob on 4956 2618 or and reserve a spot.

You don’t even have to have been out on the water on any sort of boat. You will now have the chance to go for a quiet sail on a yacht to get an idea of what sailing is all about. You will be taken out with an experienced skipper and crew and you will get a chance to try steering the vessel and trimming the sails. Or you can just sit back and relax.

The following dates are possible social sailing days.
