Newsletter 28/6

by

John Hatfield, Friday, 29 June 2012

We wish to  advise all members that Scott Churchward has finished up at the Club as at Wednesday 27-6-12.

On behalf of the Management Committee, I would like to thank Scott  for his tireless efforts through an extremely difficult period.  It has been a great assistance to have Scott available to finalise the numerous compliance requirements involved in ceasing a hospitality and gaming operation.   Thank you Scott.

As we move towards a new era for the Mackay Yacht club I would like to remind members:

·         That most community-based Clubs in Mackay are suffering a significant downturn and have posted poor results over the past 12-months.

·         MYC’s situation is unique given the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation’s (OLGR) recent decision to award gaming licences to a competitor in the immediate vicinity when the size of the market has not changed for a number of years and the MYC was a casualty of this decision.

All Yacht Club enquiries are to be directed through Commodore Jim Kirchner (            0419 477 446      ) or Lloyd Davey (            0408 604 331      ).

Email enquiries can still be made through mkyacht@mcs.net.au

Delicious BBQ, salads, bakes and more

A very special mention to all the club members, friends and families who generously gave up many weeks and hours of their time to make the NQ games a great success.

Without the ongoing support of our club volunteers this event would not be possible.

The sailing games have been a great success despite the unpredictable weather.

Thanks to all.

 Saturday 30th June 2012.

Ross has spoken to Keswick and has confirmed this race can go ahead.

Therefore, the resail of Race 1 of the offshore series will be conducted on Saturday 30th June 2012, warning signal 09:55.

Race details to follow, but the race will finish at Keswick, with the intent of a BBQ after.  There are limited moorings there,  and suitable anchorages for those who don’t need a mooring.   Please leave these for the larger boats.

For those who are not racing, or cannot meet Cat 4 requirements, feel free to cruise out to be part of the action.  I am advised they now have limited shop facilities on the island.  Contact Ross Chisholmrosschisholm1@gmail.com for more information.

my photos001.jpg    Have you seen this missing trophy????

This trophy was donated to the club some years ago by Ted and Tom Manning – and Tom would like it back.  It used to be in the old club house but seems to have disappeared in the move to the current club house.  If you have seen this trophy or have it in your possession (for safe keeping) Tom would like to hear from you.  We have checked out the club house and storage areas downstairs but have not been able to locate it.  If anyone has any information regarding the whereabouts of this trophy please contact Tom

Tom_Manning@bigpond.com  Thanks for your help.

Social Sailing at MYC 2018

SOCIAL SAILING

Social sailing is an activity that the club runs on some Saturdays throughout the year. This is something the anyone can participate in.

Further details are available under Sailing in the main menu above.

We meet at the marina at 12 noon and are usually back in by 4. So if you want to join us contact Bob on 4956 2618 or mazandbob01@bigpond.com and reserve a spot.

You don’t even have to have been out on the water on any sort of boat. You will now have the chance to go for a quiet sail on a yacht to get an idea of what sailing is all about. You will be taken out with an experienced skipper and crew and you will get a chance to try steering the vessel and trimming the sails. Or you can just sit back and relax.

The following dates are possible social sailing days.
