Race 1 25th Feb
All boat owners and skippers are invited to a meeting to discuss various aspects of racing at Mackay Yacht Club
Items for discussion inlcude:
Racing under rating systems The concept of racing, in addition to the normal performance based system, under relevant rating systems. In particular, we could race as a combined fleet, however also, within that fleet, race the Trailable yachts under relevant Class Based Handicaps (CBH), the keel boats could race under IRC or AMS, and multihulls race under OMR. To achieve this, it would be necessary for boat owners to have their boats measured and weighed, which can be co-ordinated throughout the fleet. Ross Chisholm is a Yachting Australia IRC / AMS / IMS measurer, and can probably handle CBH as necessary.
Advantages are that the fleet would then have a competition that would encourage improvement, of boats, crew and sailing skills. In addition, should this principle be agreed to further along the coast, it would alleviate the issues raised with races such as Yeppoon – Mackay and WOYRC series, where results depend on the local handicapper.
Disadvantages are that boats need to be measured and weighed, which takes time and there are costs associated.
Racing under performance handicapping would continue as usual, and performance handicaps would continue to be reviewed after each race in accordance with the current system. This ensures that any boat without a rating certificate is catered for.
Crew Membership Fees Several suggestions for discussion include abolishment of race entry fees in lieu of daily fee payment by non-member crew; introducing sailing member category at MYC, at a lower membership level than full members, but with limited benefits (limited to 2 years);
Other items for discussion If you have anything else that you wish to raise in the interest of improvements to the racing at Mackay, please advise Rear Commodore Ross Chisholm (0429 584 787).
