A big day on the water - Community Sailing and a Sail Past

by DYC

Sunday 28th August was a busy day around Docklands and on Victoria Harbour. See all the photos here.

Docklands Yacht Club will be running our regular Community Sailing Day from 11am. The cost of the day is $20 per person or $40 per family and we provide the boats, basic instruction, supervision and life jackets. People of all ages, abilities and experience are welcome to come and sail in our fleet of safe and stable Hansa Class sailboats.

The day also sees the annual Blessing of the Fleet and Melbourne regatta. VIP's will arrive on board the schooner Enterprize and go ashore for a Welcome to Country ceremony performed by elders of the Wurundgeri people. A Blessing of the Fleet by Father Bob Maguire will then follow.

Boats will then assemble for a flotilla and sail past and sail out of Victoria Harbour, under the Bolte Bridge and around the tall ship Tenacious, who will sail over from Williamstown for the day.

A free ferry service will run throughout the day, taking passengers around the harbour from Waterfront Plaza and Melbourne City Marina, arriving and departing from our pontoon to visit the Heritage Vessel Exhibition featuring Alma Doepel and the Steam Tug Wattle.

Upstairs in the Family Services section of the Hub will be a program of events, including an Indigenous performance and story telling and a talk by local historian and geologist on early beginnings of Melbourne. The Docklands Sunday Market will run from 11.00 to 5.00pm and roving entertainers will perform and a concert will be held from 1.00pm to 5.00pm.

So, it's going to be a great day to come and experience Docklands and get out on the water
