Docklands Yacht Club overlooks Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of the Melbourne City skyline and the ever changing Docklands precinct. From January 2016, sailing will take place from the 60 metre pontoon at our new premises - the Community Boating Hub, 912 Collins Street, adacent to the Library at Dock Square. Community Sailing days are normally the second and fourth Sunday of each month year round from 11am but are subject to change (check Calendar page for more details). Everyone is welcome. We supply the boats, lifejackets and instruction.
DYC hits the Yarra for the Food and Wine Festival
Docklands Yacht Club boats and members were part of the action of the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival.
A initiative of Yachting Victoria, a free Come Try Sailing Day was promoted as part of the Festival, and a tent set up in Batman Park. Due to commercial boating restrictions, our boats sailed off Enterprize Park adjacent to the Aquarium, so potential sailors were walked across the road by our members.
Boats were launched from DYC and towed around under the Bolte Bridge and back up the Yarra to Enterprize Park. The instructors enjoyed their leisurely trips in the boats and, as always, it was a unique way to see our part of the City.
With YV supervision and instructors members of the public were taken sailing, with the young and young at heart experiencing sailing in a unique environment - many for the first time. As the closest Club to the Festival, Docklands Yacht Club were invited to take part and provide boats and information about our Club and activities.
Saturday was overcast, but still warm, whilst Sunday turned into one of those stellar Melbourne days, and the crowds were out in force. Nearly 50 people sailed on the Saturday, with closer to 70 on the Sunday. The activites in Batman Park included many childrens activities like face painting and our Rear Commodore, Christine, channelled her inner pirate on the second day - welcoming the public with her parrot 'tattoo'.
Thanks to Gavin and Paul from YV, all the instructors across the 2 days and, as always, our members who gave up either some or all of their weekend to assist with this event and promote our club.
