Docklands Yacht Club celebrated it's first sailing day in the Community Boat Hub today with Melbourne putting on some glorious sailing conditions.

Today coincided with the annual Discover Sailing Day and, whilst we had not widely promoted our involvement in the event, our 7 Hansa 303's were in action all day long, with 15 new sailors taking to Victoria Harbour across the day.

Parents, kids, adults and grandparents all took to the water accompanied by a DYC member and then many went back out to sail on their own. Light winds and bright sunshine made it a beginners paradise on the water.

The perfect weather saw a lot of activity from pleasure craft and our co-tennants, the Dragonboat teams were holding a training camp.  Whilst some of our novices found themselves in the middle of the dragonboat's rectangular course, everyone found their place on the water without incident.

Thanks to all the DYC members who rigged and launched boats and took our new sailors out for a sail and Cadeyrn for making sure they were all signed up and fitted with lifejackets. It was great to see Richard and Koos from our partner program at Broadmeadows out on the harbour - Koos was looking very much at home on the larger waterway of Docklands. We look forward to welcoming some more of the sailors from Jack Roper reserve to our new premises.

We hope to see some of the new faces again, at our next Community Sailing Day, or possibly at our Australia Day regatta.
