Moving in is one step closer . . .

by DYC

An opportunity to quickly drop some boats into the new Community Boating Hub, turned into a full day's work for a small group yesterday.

After arranging the temporary removal of the bollards in Sailmaker Way - the short street beside the new Boating Hub - vehicle access was possible to drop trailers carrying some boats back from the recent Sail Melbourne regatta.

Seizing the opportunity, the group decided to then move as many boats & masts as possible from Shed 2 to the new building.

Without the wooden racks to sit the boats on, trailers and rests were used to rest the boats on. The plan was to cut the wooden racks, if required, but to move them on the back of a tow truck from Shed 2 to the new building. Fortunately, Morgan Staley from BTS Towing was available, and so the relocation of the wooden racks was arranged.

It was a bit of a logistical exercise, as the racks were nearly 10 meters long, and the tray of the truck only 7 metres. However, with some well placed props and lots of rope, the racks were loaded onto the tray of the tow truck in one piece and driven very slowly down to the new building, where they we relocated.

The majority of the sail boats, powerboats and spars are now all in the new building, however there is still a lot of equipment in Shed 2 that will need to either be relocated or removed.

The new storage boxes are not yet completed so, we have no storage in the new building. As previously advised, the C-Crane bases are not installed and the large davit crane for launching the power boats is till on the dock outside Shed 2. There will be no sailing for the remainder of 2015, however we are confident that we can get people on the water for our first sailing day of 2016 - January 10th.

Following the interruption to the Short Course Series of 2015-16, a 3 day regatta is planned for the Australia Day Long Weekend. This day will include a full day's coaching clinic, followed by 2 days of racing. More details to follow.

Thanks to Russell, Shauna, David, Rob and Morgan (and BTS Towing) for yesterday's efforts.
