New life jackets to be purchased with grant from Vic Health.

Docklands Yacht Club has been successful in obtaining funding in the latest round of grants from Vic Health's Active Clubs Grant program.

The Club has been awarded $3,000 in the first round of funding for the 2015-16 season.

This money will be used to purchase new adult lifejackets and replace the old, worn and torn ones. The Club has a large range of Children's lifejackets, and the purchase of new adult pfd's will allow us to continue our community sailing program and allow parents and children to sail together in safety.

VicHealth’s Active Club Grants offer funding to community sport and recreation clubs to increase or maintain participation through their club, by purchasing core equipment. Active Club Grants are part of VicHealth’s long-term plan to get more Victorians living healthier and happier lives and are designed to help local sports clubs attract new members, particularly those who aren’t getting the recommended 2.5 hours per week of moderate physical activity.

Through their ap 'Team Up', they provide access for individuals to locate physical activities in their local area. From organised activities including Zumba, netball, pilates and group fitness, to more recreational pursuits such as biking, walking, jogging groups, swimming (AND SAILING!) , there are activities for all fitness levels and interests.

Docklands Yacht Club's activities are promoted on the Team Up app - details of which can be found here.

Regular physical activity is a key factor in promoting good health and preventing chronic disease. However, less than a third of Australians are getting enough physical activity to benefit their health.

Docklands Yacht Club is grateful to Vic Health and the Active Clubs Grant for this funding, and look forward to promoting the safe and accessible sport of sailing to more Victorians.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
