Short Course Racing returns to DYC

by Docklands Yacht Club

The dates for the annual Docklands Yacht Club Short Course Racing Series have been announced.

Scheduled on one Sunday per month through until April next year, the Short Course Series is open to Hansa 2.3, Hansa 303, Liberty and other classes.

The first race day is Sunday October 4*. Future dates are November 15, December 20, January 17, February 21, April 3 and April 17.

* The first racing date of October 4 may be abandoned or postponed due to the relocation of Docklands Yacht Club and the marina pontoon to their new facilities. Confirmation of this date will be on this website and our Facebook page.

Sailors may register to compete in any race or the whole series.

Short course racing is a great fun way to get a start or progress in racing and provides plenty of practice with starts and mark roundings.  It helps to develop skills, technique and rules knowledge while enjoying some friendly competition.  On most days, 4-6 short races of 10-20 minute duration are conducted.

The Series will be held in conjunction with the Docklands Short Course Regatta on April 17th when races will be combined division starts with overall results calculated on Yachting Victoria Yardstick.

The Series provides an ideal preparation for sailors competing in the INAS International Sailing Championships (January 22-26 at Docklands Yacht Club), the Hansa Class Victorian Championships (January 30-31 at Latrobe Valley Yacht Club) and the Australian Championships (March 25 - 28 at the Gold Coast Sailing Club in Queensland).

Informal training and coaching may be available in the mornings before racing.  A limited number of club boats are available for members and visiting sailors (visitors pay a small fee). Sailors may also bring their own boats.

The Notice of Race (including entry form) and Sailing Instructions are available below.

If you have any questions, email the club via docklandsyachtclub@gmail.com or contact Series Coordinator David Staley via email david_staley@bigpond.com or phone 0428 514 058.

That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand.
