Success at Sauna Sail
by Shauna Phillips
Five sailors from Docklands Yacht Club competed in the recent Sauna Sail at the Latrobe Valley Yacht Club.
Sailing in the 303 division was Christine Elliott and Beck West, with Shauna & Russell Phillips and Mark Thompson in Liberties.
5 races were completed across the 3 day event on the Queens Birthday long weekend, with the combined fleets being scored on a handicap system.
Christine Elliott sailed very consistently across the event, with four second-place finishes. She was unable to get past overall winner, Albury/Wodonga's Stewart Cathie, until the final race.
Beck West saved her best until last, notching up a win in the final race of the regatta in heavy conditions.
Surprising everyone (particularly herself!), Shauna was the second Liberty across the line in two of the races in her first regatta whilst Russell sailed consistently well to finish in overall third place.
DYC sailors are grateful to Rob Eadie from Tasmania who towed the large trailer with 4 boats to the regatta on ou behalf.
