Community Hub takes shape

by Shauna Phillips

At a recent site visit, the building was almost to lock-up stage, with plastering, electrical and plumbing work to begin shortly.

The old railway tracks that run through the middle of the building form the part of the history of the dock area and will be preserved. A clear resin will provide a smooth finish over the tracks but allow them to still be seen. The floor space in the new building will be almost 3 times the space in our current home.

A large electric roller door will allow direct access to the launching dock and crane and allow all boats to remain fully rigged and ready to sail.

The Docklands Yacht Club will share the premises with our current co-tenants, Dragonboats Victoria and the Melbourne Outrigger Canoe Club. The second floor of the building will be occupied by Family Services.

We are looking forward to moving into our new club later this year.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.

Our new location

Sailing for Everyone!

Docklands Yacht Club overlooks Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of the Melbourne City skyline and the ever changing Docklands precinct.  From January 2016, sailing will take place from the 60 metre pontoon at our new premises - the Community Boating Hub, 912 Collins Street, adacent to the Library at Dock Square.  Community Sailing days are normally the second and fourth Sunday of each month year round from 11am but are subject to change (check Calendar page for more details). Everyone is welcome. We supply the boats, lifejackets and instruction.
