The first four races in the Short Course Series were held on October 6th with moderate to fresh breezes providing some great sailing.

While the more experienced sailors led the way around the course, it was great to see four new racers on the course and quickly improving their skills.

DYC Secretary, Russell Phillips, is not long back from placing second in the North American Liberty Championships in San Francisco and won three of today’s races. Cadeyrn Gaskin was close behind all day and took the win in race three. Shauna Phillips also had her first solo race in the Liberty class today.

In the 303s it looked like Neil Patterson was going to make a clean sweep of the results, claiming two clear wins to start the day. Neil has just returned from competing in the IFDS World Disabled Sailing Championships in Ireland and the UK Open 2.4mR Championships. But Beck West had other plans. Winning both of the last two races by a clear margin, Beck ended the day on equal points with Neil but leads on the count-back.

This Short Course Series is an excellent introduction for any sailor who wishes to get started in racing, and a great opportunity for all sailors to practice race starts and buoy roundings. Informal training and coaching may be available in the mornings before racing.

The series consists of one day of racing each month, where as many as 8 short races can be run.  The series entry fee is $30 or $10 casual entry per race day.  DYC members have priority access to a supplied boat.  Non-members can use DYC boats for an additional cost of $10 per day.  Get your bookings in early to secure a boat.

Future racing dates are:

Sunday November 3rd

Sunday December 15th

Sunday January 5th

Sunday February 2nd

Sunday March 2nd

Sunday April 6th
