The Docklands Yacht Club Short Course Racing Series concluded today with Mark Thorpe, Sarah Millsom and Cadeyrn Gaskin finishing at the top of their respective results tables.

Six races were completed in a 7-12 knot westerly this afternoon, with 8 boats on the water to see out the club's racing season.  Most of the sailors will be at Lysterfield Lake in 2 weeks time, competing in the Victorian Access Class Championships.

The Access 2.3 division of the DYC Series was won by Mark Thorpe, a member of Latrobe Valley and Lake Wellington Yacht Clubs in Gippsland.  Mark finished with a total of 32 points, 25 points clear of Martin Waller from Sugarloaf Sailing & Boating Club.  Third was Beck West from Docklands Yacht Club.

Sarah Millsom, a member of Latrobe Valley Yacht Club and Docklands Yacht Club, competed in every race day throughout the season to claim the series trophy with 77 points, almost 50 points ahead of the next competitor.  Sarah sailed with a variety of crews including her two brothers and a number of DYC members.  Second overall was Christine Elliott from Docklands, with new DYC member Neil Patterson in third place.  Neil only started racing with the club in January, but is planning to compete in the Access Class World Championships in Sydney this Easter.

The Access Liberty class was won by DYC's Vice Commodore Cadeyrn Gaskin.  Cadeyrn will be racing in the 3.6 metre at the Victorian and World Championships.

Racing in the Short Course Series was conducted on 6 of the 7 scheduled days from September through March.  Only the first race day scheduled in September was abandoned due to poor weather, enabling the club to have it most successful series yet.  34 races were completed in the Access 303 division, 22 for the Access 2.3s and 12 for the Liberties.

Trophies for the series will be presented at the Victorian Access Class Championships on March 18.  It is expected the 2012-13 Short Course Series will commence again in September.
