Docklands Yacht Club overlooks Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of the Melbourne City skyline and the ever changing Docklands precinct. From January 2016, sailing will take place from the 60 metre pontoon at our new premises - the Community Boating Hub, 912 Collins Street, adacent to the Library at Dock Square. Community Sailing days are normally the second and fourth Sunday of each month year round from 11am but are subject to change (check Calendar page for more details). Everyone is welcome. We supply the boats, lifejackets and instruction.
New Facilities on the Horizon
Docklands Yacht Club is looking forward to having new facilities, maybe as soon as 2013.
Since 2009, DYC has been working with Dragon Boats Victoria and the Melbourne Outrigger Canoe Club, both of whom have shared Shed 2 with us since 2006, to develop a proposal for a purpose built Community Boating Centre. Meetings have been held regularly between the groups, supported by Lend Lease Victoria Harbour.
A significant step forward for the project was confirmation of the Community Boating Centre’s inclusion in the recently Docklands Master Plan released by the City of Melbourne in conjunction VicUrban.
There is much still to be done to bring this dream to a reality, but the Clubs have been cooperating closely and working actively to make it happen. DYC Committee members David Staley, Cadeyrn Gaskin and Terry O’Donnell have been attending the steering committee meetings and been actively involved in developing the joint proposal and facility specifications.
