Green light for Community Boating Centre

Construction of the new Docklands Family Services and Boating Hub will proceed, after council approved the plans at the 6 August Future Melbourne Committee meeting.

Located on the waterfront where Collins Street will meet Bourke Street in Victoria Harbour, the two-storey facility will include:

  • a community boating hub on the ground floor, which will be home to Docklands Yacht Club, the Victorian Dragon Boat Association and the Melbourne Outrigger Canoe Club
  • a family services centre on the second floor, including
    • four consulting rooms
    • a playgroup room
    • a large outdoor playground
    • a group program room
    • a large multi-purpose room for community hire

The new facility will be next to the Docklands Library and Community Centre, which will be open in April 2014.

This is a very welcome announcement following five years of planning by the combined associations currently sharing the facilities at Shed 2.  This project could only have proceeded with the support of developer Lend Lease, Places Victoria and the City of Melbourne.

Comment Guidelines: The SportsTG Network is made up of players, families and passionate sports followers like you who have a strong opinion about sport. That's great - we want you to have your say and share your thoughts with the world. However, we have a few rules that you must follow to keep it fun for all. Please don't be rude, abusive, swear or vilify others. Apart from some pretty serious sport sanctions, we also can ban you and report you if things get out of hand. So play fair and have fun, and thanks for your contribution.
