Docklands Yacht Club overlooks Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of the Melbourne City skyline and the ever changing Docklands precinct. From January 2016, sailing will take place from the 60 metre pontoon at our new premises - the Community Boating Hub, 912 Collins Street, adacent to the Library at Dock Square. Community Sailing days are normally the second and fourth Sunday of each month year round from 11am but are subject to change (check Calendar page for more details). Everyone is welcome. We supply the boats, lifejackets and instruction.
DYC Sailors top of the table at Sauna Sail
Docklands members have sailed into the top three places at the annual Sauna Sail regatta in Victoria’s Latrobe Valley this month.
Held over the Queen’s Birthday weekend each year, the regatta is sailed on the Hazelwood Pondage – a cooling pond for the nearby power station. Water temperature is in the mid 20’s, creating an eerie mist every morning during the cooler months. It is quite an unusual place to sail.
Six Liberty sailors, including entries from New South Wales, Tasmania, Mornington and three DYC members, competed amongst the 141 boat multi-class fleet. The Liberty division was won by David Staley, with Russell Phillips second and Cadeyrn Gaskin third.
There are some extraordinary photos of the regatta posted on the Australian Hansa Class facebook page at www.facebook.com/AustralianHansaClassAssociation
