Werribee River Cruise

2011 MPONR Liaison

Come and join in a great sail from St Kilda marina on Saturday afternoon to Werribee River where we are planning to stay upstream for the night.

Briefing at 12.00pm by the coast guard Ramp and we will depart the marina by 12.30pm for arrival at the mouth of the river no later than 5.00pm. If the weather is favourable we will take a look at Altona on the way across. On arrival in the river we will motor up steam for approx. 20 mins till we find a good river bank to suit all the fleet.

Sundays return will be decided after discussions on Saturday evening following weather forecasts.

There are 2 main things to be mindful of while doing this trip;

  • If we take a sailing course across to Altona on the way, stand off the shore line by 1km to clear reefs shallows and isolated rocks between Gellibrand light and Altona headland out from the ramp.

  • On approaching Werribee River use the leads to navigate into the river so as to stay within the dredged channel. At low tide it can become quite shallow in troughs if there is any wave motion. If this is the situation drop the sails and motor in with the keel half raised.

Please bring along a bag of fire wood to build a fire so that after dinner (main course) we can sit around the fire and share pancakes for dessert.

  • Chairs

  • Happy hour

  • Pancake mix

  • Toppings

  • Spray cream.

Fry pan for pancakes will be supplied.
