Tom McDonald, FCQ's Regional Football Development Officer has signed off on another successful Development Centre program for 2016.
This year saw the program expand from 5-weeks to 10-weeks, including going from 2 age groups to 3 in Rockhampton. For the first time, an Emerald-based program was included which provided local children with the opportunity to play games against sides from Rockhampton and Gladstone.
Speaking about the program, Tom McDonald added “it’s been a fantastic 10 weeks. We’ve managed to work with over 80 kids at a critical age of development and both the coaching group and I saw a huge improvement. I also saw the 8 coaches develop and gain confidence within the program which was very pleasing.
I would like to extend a huge thank you to firstly all parents who entrusted us with their children and then to the coaches. I'd like to take time to note the special work that Wendy Leeuw and Dean Matheson are doing out in Emerald. With minimal support from me given the distance from my base, they have managed to engage and develop a quality group of players and I look forward to seeing them play their last round of fixtures in Rockhampton later this year.”
McDonald stated that everyone should keep an eye out early next season for announcements to sign up for the program, saying he hopes to expand it to include more age groups and players.
