2017-18

All

The men’s Cup quarter finals were completed yesterday, with the last 2 matches in the round both going to 5 sets.

The Dartford v Maidstone match yesterday was a really good contest, with some powerful hitting and serving from both teams.  It would have made an excellent final, so one for you all to live up to!

The semi-final draws are as follows (home team named first):

Stan Hastie Cup

Strood-1

v

Maidstone-1

Dartford-Oasis

v

Rainham-1

KCVA Plate

Tonbridge-1

v

Dartford-1

Team Medway-1

v

Bexley-1

Good luck to all in your semi-finals.  Please get the results through to me as soon as possible after the match, so I can finalise the schedules and responsibilities for Finals Day (3rd June).

___________________________________________________________________

The draw has been made for this season’s Cup competitions.

Firstly, I need to make you aware of the round dates:

  • For the Mens competition there is a preliminary round which will determine the semi-finalists.  The winners from round 1 will progress to the semi-finals of the Stan Hastie Cup, while the losers from the first round will contest the semi-finals of the Plate competition.
  • Round 1 matches are to be played during the week ending 22nd April.  If both teams are agreeable and available the fixture may, of course, be played ahead of this date.  Please just go ahead and keep me posted on the alternative date you have agreed.

Semi-finals

  • Semi-finals for all 3 competitions (Stan Hastie Cup, KCVA Plate and June Morgan Ladies Cup) are to be played in the week ending Sunday 6th May.
  • May is a particularly busy month for potential clashes with other Volleyball events in the National Calendar and other things which we can’t do anything about.  For all 4 weekends in May there is something to try to avoid, but without inventing an extra week we just can’t avoid them all!
  • Whilst the semi-finals are scheduled to be played in the week ending Sunday 6th May, KCVA will allow an extra week to Sunday 13th May, to complete the semi-finals if necessary.  This must obviously be with the agreement of both teams and please keep me informed if it is necessary to rely on the extra week to complete your semi-final.
  • Equally, if the teams in either of the Ladies semi-finals wish to play their match earlier than 6th May, that will be perfectly acceptable (assuming it is agreeable to both teams).  Again, please just keep me advised if you decide to do that.

Finals Day is booked for Sunday 3rd June at Dartford Science and Technology College, from 11:00 to 18:00.  This is the only day which will work for Finals Day as there are other dates in June which we also need to avoid.

The draw is as follows:

Men Round 1:

Tonbridge-1

v

Strood-1

Maidstone-1

v

Dartford-1

Rainham-1

v

Bexley-1

Medway-1

v

Dartford-Oasis

Ladies - semi-final draw:

Maidstone-L

v

Tonbridge-L

Strood-L

v

Dartford-L

The semi-final draw for the Mens competition is in the PDF document at the foot of this page.  This will show you who you will meet in the next round (one of 2 teams, depending on who wins and who loses, of course!)

I am aware that there is a limited gap between round 1 and the semi-finals, so please make early enquiries of your sports centre to check you have court availability if you are drawn at home for your semi-final.

Please make sure you get your Round 1 results through to me no later than the day after the match as I need to keep all teams posted on who they will be playing in the semi-finals.  It would also be helpful if you could text me the match result immediately after your match has finished.

As ever, I will be seeking volunteers to help on Finals Day (refs/scorers/line judges).  Finals Day participants will be expected to help out, of course, but it would be great to have as wide a pool of volunteers as possible.  If you want to get involved (or have someone in your club who wants to), please let me know as early as possible so I can try to accommodate everyone.

I hope I have covered everything, but please ask if there is anything about which you are not clear.

Secretary, Kent County Volleyball Association
