Under 14 Boys (2)

Bellarine 33 defeated Coburg (2) 21

Best Players: Baxter Nielson, Jackson Smith, Patrick White, Macauley Stephens

Top Scorers: Baxter Nielson, Jackson Smith, Ben Crombie

Game summary: This match was a battle of each clubs’ respective development squads who I am sure we are likely to keep facing each year. The boys started strongly once again with a lot of pressure on Coburg’s ball movement. This intensity has become an exciting part of our game and once again resulted in a number of opposition turnovers that we were able to score from. A just reward for the hard work. Coburg were kept scoreless in the first quarter and for the first time this season we were not outscored in any quarter - show of consistency in the defensive aspects of our game throughout. Pleasing was the intensity of players coming in off the bench maintaining the pressure. Our attack on the basket is at times thrilling but as our team work, confidence and patience develops our ball movement, screen setting and unselfish movement will also improve. Keep up the good work lads. To win round one of the home and away season is always great.

Next Week: Altona (2) at Altona

Under 14 Boys (3)

Bellarine 28 lost to Altona (3) 31

Best Players: Fraser Swan, Sam Anderson,

Top Scorers: Fraser Swan, Sam Anderson.

Game summary: Boys started well with some great passing and good shooting. Fraser Swan continued his excellent work on defense, however it is important that all the boys get in for the rebounds and close their men out with a bit more urgency. Unfortunately the boys were unable to get the last score to tie the game. The difference in the end was Altona's ability to convert their free throws, something the boys were unable to do.

Bellarine 63 defeated Eltham (9) 19

Best Players: Clancy Whelan, Vincent Whelan, Dale Perkins

Top Scorers: Clancy Whelan 28, Vincent Whelan 12, Dale Perkins 8, Bryce Newton 8

Game summary: Bellarine continued their good form and executed our game plan with success.  Bellarine controlled the game with some early buckets giving us a handy lead.  Eltham to their credit manage to wrestle the momentum for a small part of the game however the boys applied a half court press on defence to regain the ascendancy through opposition turnovers.  Overall the boys listened well to pre-game instructions and executed our game plan for the night.

Game summary: With some pre-game jitters, anticipating a tough contest from our neighbours, the game couldn’t start quickly enough for some! The young Bellarine side got off to an explosive start with a perfectly timed three-pointer from Ella Cornish right on the quarter-time siren, pushing the scoreline out to 25 to 8. Geelong came back strongly in the second quarter with a few quick goals; however Storm did not relinquish control of the game and finished with a 22 point win.
