Community football clubs across the state are receiving $500 for each player who makes their SANFL IGA League debut in a joint initiative between the SANFL Clubs and the SACFL.
Under a new talent pathway payment system to be launched this season, the player’s club of origin will not only benefit financially but also be gifted a framed photo of the player in his SANFL guernsey.
The move is designed to better recognise the efforts of SACFL affiliated football clubs in not only identifying talented players but also in developing them to progress through to SANFL level.
‘’This is a fantastic initiative which I am sure will be appreciated greatly by grass roots football clubs across the state,’’ SACFL General Manager Matt Duldig said.
‘’Not only does it continue to strengthen the talent pathway in South Australia, it will provide the platform for positive engagement between all levels of football.’’
SANFL General Manager Football Adam Kelly said it was fitting to recognise the role Community Clubs played in producing IGA League footballers.
‘’The Club network in South Australia provided the beginnings for the majority of SANFL players and as such it is satisfying that the SANFL Clubs and SACFL are in a position to recognise these Clubs through this joint initiative,’’ Kelly said.
‘’You only have to look at the example of Rigby Barnes, a mature-age midfielder who won two Mail Medals with Encounter Bay and has now decided to join South Adelaide.
‘’Barnes has been one of the early success stories of the season, ensuring Encounter Bay are rewarded financially.’’
All affiliated clubs in South Australia will also receive an upfront sum of $3000 for each player selected in the AFL Draft.
