The 2015 year culminates in Streaky Bay this Saturday, and again the year has created great interest in the EP football circles. This year, Mid-West has seen one main major front runner in West Coast Hawks, They have once again proved themselves as a dominant club, going through the minor round undefeated and then winning the 2nd semi to advance to the Grand Final. If Central Eyre is going to challenge for the premiership they will need to play their best football. Congratulations to Wirrulla and Western Districts who will battle it out for the B grade premiership and Wudinna United and West Coast Hawks who do battle for the colts premierships. Good luck to all teams
As the each year pans out, at league level there are a variety of things that come to the fore. First of all I would like to mention our representative sides this year, from the Port Adelaide Cup, Kinlough Cup and the Mortlock Shield. Again, each of the sides performed admirably in the Mid-West colours and I thank all the players, coaches and support staff for their commitment to Interleague football. Well done to everyone involved with the winning Kinlough Cup side. Some players from the above competitions also continued on to represent EP, Well done to U15 – Fraser Douglass, U/17 Samuel Buckham, Mitchell Gum, Guy Hutchinson, Jack Wilkins, Harrison Petty, Kyle Tucker and Lachlan McInnis, and the senior EP reps, Jay Williams, EP runner Scott Feltus and trainer Craig Sampson.
With Norwood taking over as our zone area they have done a fantastic job of continuing the involvement of all the players in the EP and it won’t be long before we have as many representatives for Norwood as we did for Port
On the association May game we have had a good run with Eastern Eyre and Far West, this came to an end this year and we played Far West and Lincoln City, on the football side this was a good contest with all grades, but on the netball it was just Far West and Mid West. There has been a lot of talk about what we want to do with the May game, and I don’t think anyone has come up with a perfect answer; we will have to wait to see what happens in the future.
I would like to take this opportunity to first of all congratulate the league’s premier achievers’ this year, Mail Medallist, Dillon Montgomerie & JV Day best U21– Matthew Williams, Runner up and Presidents medallist saw a tie with Jarden Stoetzer and Heath Zwar and the every ready battery of Scott Feltus winning the Flow FM award, Montgomerie Medallist Reserves B&F – David Moyse & Runner up – Quinten Webb, JH McKenna leading goal kicker – Shannon Haynes & Lockwood Medallist – Samuel Buckham and Runner Up Fraser Douglass.
I also thank the league executive, Especially Karen Quinn who has taken on the league secretaries role for the last 2 years and has done a fantastic job, Scott Feltus for taking on the junior coordinators role and Andrew Buckham for his tireless work as recorder, a great example of this is the amount of people that are now looking at the Mid West Web site, Bucky is always looking for more to put on the site to keep it up to date and informative. Also the various people who have taken on roles throughout the year to ensure Mid-West are represented in best possible manner – thankyou all
Mid-West football has its challenges and will continue to do so, with pressures coming from the outside leagues talking amalgamations and the SACFL introducing the points system and salary caps will be a challenge moving forward. However we do have a fairly stable league and enjoy a great family atmosphere each week, in particular bolstered by the relationship enjoyed with our netball association. One to enjoy!
Thank you to Streaky Bay and all our hosts through the final series, and also thankyou to all the clubs for capably fulfilling the rostered finals duties, so important! I trust today will provide another great days competition to add to the history books.
All the best to all the grand finalists, please travel safely on the journey home.
