The end of one full round of Mid West Football this weekend. Last years premiers still to post a win, improvement in the form or the Tigers and Magpies, and early pace setters the Bulldoges yet to be seriously challenged provides the lead up to this weeks rounds.
Tractors have been in action depleting the training stocks of many clubs, and a chance for many to rest over the upcoming May inter league weekend should see a desperate round of football,
West Coast Hawks vs Western Districts at Piednippie
Just how much the Tigers have improved will be examined at Piednippie this weekend. The Hawks are so often season pacesetters, and have shown glimpses of great football again this year. Dylan Kelsh v Jerel Fromm in ruck will be a highlight, in two very well matched centrelines. Scotty Feltus back to weaving his traditional magic, Dylan Beinke in top form, Wayne Moroney, Shannon Horgan lead a great Tigers midfield. The Hawks also boast an embarrassment of riches in the middle, Jake Sargent, Dillon Montgomerie, Dillon Kelsh, Kirk Montgomerie all have speed to burn. The big question will be whether the Tigers are able to pierce the rock solid Hawk defence enough to post a winning score. Truman Hoffrichter is a Tiger target, but Derick Freeman is in fantastic form.
Likely that the Hawks have too many scoring options for the Districts boys to counter, but this may well be close.
Central Eyre vs Wudinna United at Kyancutta
Peter Cock has his Bulldogs running rampant at present, they are playing with confidence, method and flair. Lots of scoring options, Kane Sampson in great form, Tyler Chapman either forward or on the ball, long kicks fromJake Bruce and Ty McKenna. Plenty of run and marking power around the ground.
The Magpies will challenge when at full strength but miss the student contingent. Welcome back to Mark "Finke"North, a ruck stalwart, and Bid Darryl Marshall. Henry Zwar Tyson Jackson and Matt Foster will be called upon for big games if Wudinna United are to chellenge in this one.
The big leveller here could well be rain. Nobody will complain to play wet weather football, but it will bring the skill players to the fore.
Central Eyre wiull start favorites here, but it is a derby game, which brings the best out in all players.
Elliston v Wirrulla at Elliston
The two sides still searching for a win, and one will keep finals hopes and dreams in tact. No two clubs travel further on the Eyre Peninsula than this game, and with the tractors going, maybe survival is the key.
The Roosters should see Ben Hurrell, Jay Williams, Steve Agars return which is en enormous boost. Wiruula still looks good on paper, but havent put four quarters together. Troy Olsen is a key on the smaller ground, his ability to take pack marks and lead the forward line will make a difference. Rob Holmes, Jason Henderson, Izaac Halman will have plenty of ball going forward for the Bombers
Jake Matthews in the ruck and around the ground must fire, along with Adam Hurrell, Rob Pickett and Adam Haarsma, who is probably leading Elliston B and F at this early stage.
Both clubs will be mindful that a loss will make their finals aspirations difficult, and it is always easy to pick Elliston at home, but the Bombers will be fired up, so could well take the points this week.
