Yallourn-Yallourn North v Hill End

Yallourn-Yallourn North enter the 2019 MGFL Grand Final as deserving favourites, their unbeaten season built on a team full of talent and complimented by a tremendous team understanding built by their playing coach, Barrie Burnett.

Hill End have finally reached their first Grand final in thirty eight years and their week would be one of excitement and pride with some nervousness about wanting to perform for a club and community that have rallied behind them on their journey.

As much as we can articulate what we expect to see based on what we have witnessed during the season, here is how all the coaches see the contest this weekend.

*Really looking forward to Saturday, the boys are excited.
Hill end has brought a lot of momentum into this week and its great to see them there but we are rested and ready.
Had a week off to freshen up and got over some niggles so we will have a full list to pick from. Its going be a tough match. Hill End have some very good players. We know what we need to do and if we can do that hopefully the result will be in our favour.

Barrie Burnett – Yallourn-Yallourn North.

*We need to keep doing what we’ve been doing all year, growing in belief, in confidence and playing fast confident, accountable football. We are staring to string larger patches of quality play together but still have mental lapses on occasions which proved costly last time.

Barrie again has done a great job with his boys, what a great team they are. It’s hard to find any weakness, very hard but we obviously have a few ideas and areas we think we could expose.
Mike Santo – Hill End

Hill End are a dangerous side, there leg speed proved that on the weekend. Baz would be hoping the rain stays away as there forwards Hughes and DMac are dynamic. I can’t see Yallourn losing this one with their side, but finals footy are strange games. Good luck to both sides. Yallourn by 23 points.

Josh Taylor – Mirboo North

*YYN have been the benchmark all year and despite a Herculean effort from Hill End in the second half of the season I expect YYN to get it done. Their key forwards not only have marking power but elite speed and this will be a worry for the less mobile Hill End defence. Emotions will be strong in the Hill End camp and rightly so, but lets not forget a few years ago YYN were in a very similar boat and are still yet to taste a grand final victory. This could be the year they break the curse. Best of luck to both teams and well done to Barrie and Mike on fantastic seasons.

Devon Soutar – Morwell East

*Yallourn-Yallourn North will win this weekend. Been the best and most consistent side all year. A lot of players have had finals experience and love the big stage. Hill end has had a great season and deserve to be there and it’s a credit to everyone involved at their football club. Yallourn north just have a bit more class and will be hungrier than ever to finally get that premiership.
Kane Grinstead-Jones – Yinnar

*YYN by 10 goals+
Just think they have to much overall talent and experience
Hill End have done really well but I think there bottom 5-6 might get exposed
Hoping for a close game obviously but, I think it’s YYN easily
Clint Eisendel - Trafalgar

*YYN have clearly been the best team all year, they have Hughes and McDonald who have kicked 3qtrs of there score every week. On the other hand Hillend are the same with Mulqueen and Saunders. Both teams have a quality midfield but YYN have more depth and talent across the board. I have seen over the years many times a team that goes through undefeated get knocked off by the underdog, if anybody's going to feel the pressure and tighten up its going to be YYN as they've been up there the last 5 years and should of won one by now. Hillend will certainly feel more confident if the weathers going to be ordinary. My tip is YYN by 3 goals

Dean Caldow - Newborough

*Yallourn-Yallourn North to win. They have been the best side all year and by a bit. Very good in all areas defence midfield and attack. They are due!.

Tony Giardina - Boolarra

*Firstly great to see the Hillmen having some success after a long period without finals, definitely the best 2 teams we played all season, both teams rely heavily on their 2 big forwards kicking a winning score, I think Yallourn might have an advantage with more leg speed around the ground but Hill End have a bit more size. I think the weather will have a big say in the result, if it’s dry I think Yallourn might be little too slick across the ground which will allow them the get plenty of ball to McDonald and Hughes but if it’s wet I think it will be a very close contest with the result a real 50:50

Ray Pickering - Thorpdale
