Committee Members Profile
Rodney Dillon "Dillo" as he is known is the current President Rod was born and bred on the Peninsula and although not living "locally" now he is still a very proud Peninsula "boy" - so proud in fact that he interupted a trip around Australia to come back to Port Macquarie and represent PTA at State Cup.
Rod has a long association with PTA as a club player, representative player, coach, referee and commitee member. Short in stature but big in heart Rod has been the cornerstone of any club or representative team that he has played in and with his speed off the mark, his long-ball and supreme fitness he is still a player that opposition teams fear. Rod has also represented the Region and Country NSW as a Mens Open rep player and is unlucky not to have been selected for higher representative honours.more -->
Matt Sawyer or "Senior" is the current Vice President and has played touch at Peninsula since 1987. Matt has been involved in both refereeing (level 2) and coaching (level 2) at local level for over 10 years and the last 4 years as a committee member. Has also coached rep teams in PJTA since 2006 across boys 12’s 14’s and 16’s.
Matt is PTA's only "home-grown" Touch player to represent Australia and is also the first player from the Central Coast region to represent Australia in the Open age category. Matt has a long list of representative achievements that are a testament to his playing ability.
Matt has played at every NSW State Cup since his debut in 1991, won 2 Consecutive Country Championship Titles with Peninsula Mixed Open and a further Mixed title in 2010, Regional representative (Region 5 / Hunter-Western Hornets), NSW Country representative, along with:
NSW CHS Open Schoolboys Touch 1992 (Vice Captain)
Australian Open Schoolboys Touch 1992 (Tour Captain)
NSW Under 20’s Men’s representative 1994-95
NSW Mixed Open representative 1995-1996, 2001
Australian Mixed Open representative 1996-1997
Apart from his on field abilities Matt plays a pivotal role on the committee as a key decision and policy maker. His knowledge of touch, general sports management and effort to change old practise is of untold value to all PTA members.
" I play touch at PTA because its my home. We are lucky at PTA that we have a great bunch of people around us. The committee, the volunteers, the members - everyone contributes to making PTA a great place to be!"more -->
Meryl Harris "Mez" has recently been re-elected to the Committee as the Secretary.
Meryl is an active player in our ever growing womens competition playing for team Yes Please.
Before moving onto the senior ranks Meryl along with her husband Tony founded the Peninsula Juniors Touch Assoc. and held several positions (registrar, secretary, rep. convenor,) over a 5 year period.
Meryl's highlight is scoring a try, every now and then and it is a shame that Meryl wasn't introduced to the game of Touch until her later years such is her untapped ability as a player.
" I look forward to working with the current committee and improving the association overall "
Meryl's management skills and support will be a major bonus not only for the running of an efficient Association, but for all members.more -->
