Senators to honour #6 Mike Ellis
When the Stirling Senators take on the Rockingham Flames Friday night, they will be ending the regular SBL season with a celebration of club heritage.
Stirling Senators club legend and Perth Wildcats great, Mike Ellis will be honoured for his dedication and commitment to the club, spanning almost four decades. A presentation will take place during Friday night’s clash with Rockingham, in which Ellis’ #6 jersey will be retired.
Mike Ellis began playing for Stirling (Stirling Basketball Association) in 1974 at the age of 17, and was in the club’s first premiership team the following year. In the early 1980s, Ellis averaged over 30 points a game for 5 consecutive seasons and throughout his NBL career with the Perth Wildcats, he continued to play with the Stirling Senators. After his retirement from the Wildcats, Ellis continued to play with the Senators until 1998. Since retirement, Mike Ellis has continued to be a key figure in the life of the club, contributing on every level from coaching junior and SBL teams to playing key leadership roles.
The retirement of Mike Ellis’ jersey is the first of its kind for the Stirling Senators. The Senators wish to extend an invitation to all current and past players, who have been coached by or have played with Mike Ellis to join the Senators on Friday night to honour him.
