Brisbane Capitals Junior Seamus O'Sullivan representing QLD South at Australian U16 Championships

Brisbane Capitals Junior player Seamus O'Sullivan has just finished one of the toughest and most rewarding weeks of his basketball career to date. Seamus as a part of the Queensland South U16 Men Team finished 7th at this weeks Australian U16 Championships held in Kilsyth, Victoria.

Queensland South defeated NSW Country in the playoff for 7th this morning in a game that always has a little more sting to it as a state of origin like battle. With NSW Country leading by double digits for coming out of the main break, the boys were able to make a run leading into the final period and never look back gaining all the momentum.

Earlier in the week, the QLD South Men started their campaign red hot tearing apart WA Metro 71-49, in a game where QLD South dominated most areas, Seamus finished with 8pts on 33.3% shooting & 7 assists.

In their second game of the week, they were pitted against one of the tournaments biggest underdogs in Tasmania, in a game that went all the way to the wire, the boys were unable to stop a firing Tassie side going down 62 - 66. Seamus recording 16pts on 41.7% shooting & 4 rebounds.

Against the Northern Territory the boys were able to record an easy win 111 - 33, where everyone contributed Seamus had 8pts and 5 rebounds. In another top of the table clash where QLD South had to win to assure themselves a top 2 finish they faced the very disciplined Victoria Country. In a low scoring affair where the emphasis was on the defensive end of the floor, the boys came up just short going down 61 - 64.

Keeping with the theme of having close game after another at the Championships the boys managed to scarpe home a win against SA Country Men 59 - 50, where Seamus had 6pts, 4 rebounds & 2 assists. In the boys last round game, they met one of the tournament favourites in NSW Metro who were just too good all over the floor and they unfortunately went down 49 - 61, Seamus recorded 8 points & 6 rebounds, finishing the rounds with 3 win and 3 losses heading into the crossovers.

In their crossover where the winner would go onto play for 5th they faced a very determined SA Metro who had only just missed out on a semi final spot. In a game where the boys came out firing to lead at the first break 18-9, the SA Metro men managed to settle into their rhythm in the second qaurter and only be trailing 29-23. As SA continued to build their momentum the QLD boys were unable to find their groove through the 3rd and 4th quarters ultimately going down 54 - 62. Seamus recorded a stat line  of 8pts, 5 rebounds & 3 assists, to finish the week with averages of 7.1ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.9apg & shoot at 29.4%.

Congratulations Seamus and well done QLD South Teams!
