On the weekend there was some truly great Broadbeach Spirit by the Broadbeach Under 16 Division 2 team and in particular the following three players.
Keagan Shaw, Joe Pinkus and Connor Swift.
Palm Beach Currumbin turned up to play with only ( 13 ) players. You need ( 15 ) players to be able to sanction a game and receive match points and %. Coach Broadbeach coach Shane Madeley asked a simple question. Would anyone like to volunteer to play as a Palm Beach Currumbin player for the day. Any player who volunteered knew they would have to wear the Lions colours all day.
To their credit, Keagan, Joe and Connor all put up their hands unselfishly and volunteered their services. All three boys acquitted themselves well, as expected, Joe even scoring a goal for PBC.
This was a once off request due to unfortunate circumstances and AFLGCJ thank all three boys for their unselfish attitude to this great game of ours.
A couple of weeks ago on Friday night the Tweed Coolangatta Blues under 12 div 2 side played a match against Coomera under 12 div 2.
There was an instance early in the first quarter where TWC player was fairly tackled by the opposition but fell awkwardly. This was in the oppositions forward line. The player stayed on the ground and grabbed at his neck and was hurting! The First Aid was attending to someone else on the far side of the ground.
A player from the Coomera team took it upon himself to see if the TWC player was ok and then tried to get the umpires attention when he saw he was injured.
Often the teams seem to look out for one another but not opposition players.
I would like the Coomera club and this player to know how wonderful it was to see such sportsmanship. We thank him for his concern for another player.
