Canterbury U15 Boys win Mainland Tournament
The Canterbury U15 Mainland teams attended the first ever U15Mainland Tournament last weekend in Blenheim with some great results. This was the first year that we have been able to send our second tier teams to a separate tournament having sent our top (Canterbury Metro) teams to the Nationals. Marlborough took over the hosting late after Nelson had to pull the pin due to the flooding of Saxton stadium. We sent two boys teams and two girls’ teams and all played well.
In the girls section the predominantly bottom aged Canterbury Black team finished 2nd losing in the final to Marlborough 35-51 while the top agers finished 3rd beating Mid Canterbury 77 - 58.
In the boys grade the top aged Black team dominated the opposition winning all of their games including the final over North Canterbury White 57 - 36. The bottom aged white team finished the tournament in 5th place but were highly competitive and missing several of the first choice bottom aged players. The tournament was a success for many of the other smaller associations too providing a more even competition.
