Cowles and Selwyn Miniball - Draws

Cowles Notes

We are now up to the final week of basketball – I hope that all of the teams have enjoyed themselves thus far.

The draw for Finals Day is attached, with each grade’s final highlighted green – so a big congratulations to those eight teams in particular!

Results can be seen on our website (and times for each team playing) at the following link

Cowles Stadium has just had the hoops renovated (as well as a new paint job), so we're looking forward to being able to use these hoops with adjustable height!

We’ll be adding all of the teams into Glory League again – which will send an video of the completed game to any players added to the team roster once uploaded.

Selwyn Notes

I hope your teams all enjoyed the competition so far. It isn’t something that can be offered without the support of coaches and parents to make it happen!

  • The winner of the 3:30pm game will also play at 4:00pm against the Dunsandel White Lions
  • Congratulations to the two West Rolleston teams, who will be playing each other for the Rams/Wildcats Grade championship (at 4:30pm)
  • Well done, also, to the Tai Tapu Tippers and the Dunandel Blue Lions – finalists in the Tall Blacks/Tall Ferns Grade

A couple of things to note:

  • There wasn’t much difference between teams in terms of skill, but we have made two pools to try and group teams as much as possible
  • Substitutions – the players got the hang of doing this very well, but please reiterate the correct steps:
    • o   Coach tells the players who they are going to substitute on for
    • o   Player(s) come to scorebench and ask for a “sub please” (They can use symbol of an X with their arms too)
    • o   Scorebench will blow siren during stoppage in play to get referees attention
    • o   Referees will signal these players on – who then come on and get the wristband from the player they are replacing
    • Following the substitution steps helps prepare the players for higher levels of basketball in the future, as well as have as much time as possible for the players to play on the court
    • Other Rules – our referees are learning as well, but will take every opportunity to teach the players on the court about their calls
