Hi all,
3 young Brothers Bulldogs stars will not be kicking back during their clubs bye in the AFL BWB NAB SPORTFIRST PREMIERSHIP like their team mates this weekend as they will be making their AFL QLD State League debuts with the Suncoast Lions (Brisbane Lions Reserves).
Billy Moorhead, Jesse Hawkes and Jake Goldsmith will be given an opportunity to play with listed AFL players when they will be used as “top up players” for the Suncoast Lions when they meet Labradoor at Bauth Park at Beenleigh at 2pm on Sunday afternoon in the Velocity Sports Cup Round 10 match.
The Brisbane Lions, due to its restricted playing list of 38 by he AFL is able to draw on what is termed as “top up players” who are required to be 17 year olds from the Sunshine Coast (3 compulsory), Brisbane West (2 compulsory) and Country Queensland if enough positions are available. Current injuries to the Lions listed players has provided an opportunity this weekend for the 3 Bulldogs to get some invaluable State League experience and play with AFL listed players.
Moorhead, Goldsmith and Hawkes have all been in great form for the Bulldogs as they have consolidated a top 3 position in the NAB SPORTSFIRST PREMIERSHIP in the first half of the season.
AFL QLD Regional Manager, Anthony McDonald said, “This is an opportunity we have been providing for our regions best 17 year olds for a number of years. This will give the boys the opportunity to compete at a higher standard amongst some elite company and learn from that experience and apply that learning to improve. There are other players in the region that will get their opportunity down the track.”
All 3 will be training at Brothers Bulldogs from 5.30pm this evening. Contact Brothers President Terry Webb 0412956603 to organise interviews or photos.
Thank you,
Anthony McDonald · Regional Manager · Bundaberg Wide Bay
