BITS VS GLENMORE
BITS at home is a daunting task for any side, but Glenmore will go into the top of the table clash with confidence having disposed of reigning premiers Brothers in their last game. BITS will enjoy the luxury of another home game, which should mean they will be close to full strength.
Like I have been saying since the start of the season, the key to beating the Saints is to minimise the impact of 'The Animal' who has basically been BITS sole focal point up forward. Stopping John Beirouti is easier said than done, when you have a midfield containing the likes of Daniel Hunt, Nathan Shiphard, Nick Stanley, Paul Caveny that will continue to provide A-Class supply. The key for the Bulls is for the Payne brother's to nu'lify the talented Saints midfield.
If Glenmore can win their share of the football in the middle and provide clean use to Derek Mangan then they can be competitive in this match. I don't see the Bulls being able to kick enough goals or stop the Saints forward line.
Prediction: BITS by 32 points
PANTHERS VS BROTHERS
Both clubs will see this game as a must win given neither side has a win after 3 rounds. While Brother's 2 losses have been by narrow margins, the same cannot be said for Panthers who have been belted by BITS and Yeppoon in recent weeks. It was the corresponding game last year that kicked started the Roo's 15 game winning streak on their way to premiership success. While another premiership success is probably not on Brothers mind at the moment, they will certainly be keen to get a win and kick start their season.
Games between these 2 clubs always have plenty of fire and I don't expect this one to be any different. The key for both sides will be their new look midfields. Both teams have lost influential players from the midfield of recent years and are stilling working on building the necessary structures of a good midfield.
Expect a tight game early, but Brothers experience will run over the top of the younger Panthers.
Prediction: Brothers by 43 points
GLADSTONE VS YEPPOON
Plenty of motivation for Yeppoon this weekend, with club stalwart Wes Hawke set to play his 200th game for the red and white. 200 games for the one club is a tremendous effort and what makes this a greater effort is that for most of his 200 games he has had to crash and leap into the opposition ruckmen. Gladstone will certainly be looking to spoil the party and will rate their chances given they are at home were they are probably a 5-goal better team.
Yeppoon has jumped out of the blocks in each of their games this year and I am sure Gladstone's coach Jason Chirgwin is aware of this and will try to have his troops up early. It has been concentration lapses for parts of the game that has cost Gladstone in each of their games so far and they will be looking for a 4 quarter effort.
Expect this one to be a tight contest but the red and white will rally around Hawke to make it a memorial day in his 200th.
Prediction: Yeppoon by 10 points
