Competition Briefing
Boxing will be holding a competition briefing at 3.00pm on Sunday 13th May.
Venue: Aviation Institute Incorporated - situated off Charles Eaton Drive.
It is important that all Judges/Referees/Team Officials and Coaches attend.
Event Details
Always one of the Arafura Games' most popular sports, the boxing competition will be open to male and female boxers aged over 17 years. Divisions range from light fly weight (48kg) to super heavy weight (+91kg).
Amateur boxers are matched up according to their age, weight and experience. Boxers will compete over 4 x two minute rounds with a one minute rest in between rounds.

The boxing competition will be held at the Marrara Hub, Abala Road, in the heart of the Arafura Games.

International Participation in Boxing
As at 5 May 2007, Boxing will have boxers from the following international countries competing:
PNG, New Zealand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Timor.

Weigh in, draws and boxing will be conducted in accordance with AIBA and the rules of BA.
Rule 6 Competition Weights Within Australia
(a) Males aged 17 and over: The weight divisions used within Australia for Males who are 17 years of age and above shall be as per international rules, being 48, 51, 54, 57, 60, 64, 69, 75, 81, 91, & 91+ kilograms.
(b) Females aged 17 and over: The weight divisions used within Australia for Females who are 17 years of age and above shall be as per international rules for females being 46, 48, 50, 52, 54, 57, 60, 63, 66, 70, 75, 80, & 86 kilograms.

What days is the Boxing on?
The boxing begins on Monday 14 May and continues through to Friday 18 May.
Do we need a medical?
It is compulsory to have a full medical check before you compete. This should be done before arriving in Darwin. The doctor must fill out and sign the front of your medical/fight logbook.
What equipment do I need to bring with me?
You will need to provide your own mouth guard, groin protector and red and blue singlets. Proper shorts will need to be worn that do not go below the knees.
What are the weather conditions like?
It will be the dry season, with warm days and cooler nights. It is recommended that you wear a hat and sunscreen and always carry water with you.
