Corrimal president: Dave Adams
Corrimal may be one of the Illawarra Coal League’s battling clubs but this weekend they will have plenty to cheer about when their women’s and Coal Shield teams play in their respective Grand Finals.
The Cougars will play Helensburgh in the Illawarra Ladies League Grand Final at Collegians Sports Centre on Saturday followed by their Illawarra Coal Shield premier team doing battle with Northern Suburbs at WIN Stadium on Sunday.
Corrimal performed well last season in their Centenary Year and this season they have continued to build on that success.
And no one could be happier than Cougars president Dave Adams.
“Certainly is [a source of pride],” Adams said.
“Also, the 18s made the semis and got knocked out in the minor semi-final by Dapto. The 15s and 11s are in grand finals.
“So it’s been a big year for the club.
“Firsts and seconds are a little bit disappointed the way they went but certainly the thirds [Shield] are in there again defending their title.
“And the ladies? Well, the ladies have been up there all year and deserve to be in there on Saturday.
“Their defence [against Wests last Sunday] was as good as any male game you’ll see anywhere.
“That’s what people have got to realise.
“I hope they get along to watch the ladies. It’s such a great brand of football. It’s sensational.
“Corrimal and the Burgh will go out there and play football. There’s no crap in them. They’ll get out there and play. It’s a wonderful brand of football the ladies play I think and it’s not spoilt by the nonsense the guys go on with. They really play a great brand of football.
“In the Coal Shield there’s nothing between the sides. A couple of points, maybe a try here and there.
“Our guys are capable. We tend to clock off at times. The ability’s there.
“I reckon it will be close to the best Grand Final all day.”
