Wests junior wins inaugural Col Purcell Centenary Scholarship

A Western Suburbs (Illawarra) player for the past nine years, and a former student of Holy Spirit College, Bellambi, Zachary is in his first year at UOW and has commenced a Bachelor of Medical and Health Sciences course.

His desire is to graduate and specialise in sports medicine.  “Ultimately I would like to assist a Rugby League club, maybe the Dragons,” Zachary said.

Having known Col Purcell while coming through the Illawarra Junior League ranks, Zachary said it was great honour to receive assistance from a scholarship named in Col’s honour by the Centenary Committee.

Senior Development Co-ordinator of Scholarships at UOW, Renee Burton; said the University would like to recognise and thank the members of the Col Purcell Centenary Committee for their initiative and generous support.

“As a sponsor of this scholarship program, Rugby League will have a significant impact on these students achieving their study and career goals for many years to come,” she said.
