WOMEN'S RUGBY LEAGUE ON THE RISE
It has been a slow road but the Illawarra can now boast four teams for its Women’s Rugby League competition with interest mounting each week.
Two teams from Berkeley, one from Wests and now a new one from Corrimal will contest in games at Gibson Park this Saturday, 1 May at 10.00am and 11.00am.
Whilst early interest was mainly from the younger age groups, the older age group (17+) have been more pro-active in gathering their players.
Illawarra Rugby League Administrator, Julie Nicoll, said “While it has been disappointing the lack of numbers in the younger age groups has not allowed for the new competitions to begin, with the older girls taking the lead we hope that in time interest will grow and create a true pathway for the girls”
“The girls’ co-ordinator, Leann Andrews, has done a fantastic job in getting these competitions co-ordinated even going so far as to take on a temporary coaching job.”
If you would like further information regarding this new concept in the Illawarra please don’t hesitate to contact Leann in the first instance.
