Game 1: Nomads v Cats
The Cats had a big win over the Bulldogs last week and started their year off on the right foot for the first ime in a long time. The Nomads had an up and down game against the Swans that saw them lose. The Cats hate traveling the long trip to Armidale or Inverell for that matter and it will be all about how many players they can convince to travel. The Nomads will be stung by their loss to the Swans and as I said last week any team with Weston Whitby in it can't be taken lightly. How ever I did forget about Dave Richards, aka Modra, and need a slap up the side of the head for this oversight.
Tip: I just can't see the Cats winning this one, Nomads by 42 points.
Game 2: Kangaroos v Swans
The local derby will huge this week. The Swans started the season the right way and will be well and truly primed for this game. The Kangaroos on the other hand will have been stung by their opening round thumping at the hands of the Saints. True the kangaroos did not have a full strength side or even a full side but they always find something extra for these clashes. At stake is the Billy Holder Cup, which is a great tribute to a local footy icon, and as yet only the Kangaroos have been the only holders of the cup. I know the Swans desperately want to gain hold of the cup for the first time and they will put everything into this game.
Tip: This is the Swans best chance of getting one up on the Rooboys since 2009 and I think they will win a close one here by 8 points.
Game 3: Bulldogs v Saints
The Bulldogs lead at every change except the one that matters last week against the Cats. So my prediction of them taking a while to gel was a little off. I now expect the Bullbogs to do better this year then I thought. At the Kennel they are always hard to beat so this won't be any lay down misere for the Saints. However the Saints put forward a very impressive showing in round 1. Revenge is always sweet but a round 1 win does not replace a premiership and in the end who remebers a round 1 win? No body that's who. Who remebers premierships? Everyone that's who. My point being the Saints will now have moved on from last week knowing they have taken the first step in a new season.
Tip: I think this will be a closer game than expected but the Saints will get up by 25 points.
And finally to The Drum catch me if you can old mate.
