2. I have one nipper aged 5 to 13 years, do l have to join as a family?
Answer: Yes, due to the strict Working with Children rules, we no longer offer individual nipper memberships, either one or both parents must join with their nipper and this parent must hold a Working with Children card (prior to registration).
3. Why do l need a Working with Children check if l do not actively participate at the Life Saving Club
Answer: All members over the age of 18 years must hold a Working with Children card regardless of your level of involvement. This ensures that all members entering the clubs premises, change rooms, first aid room, etc are all covered under the Working with Children policy. This is a Life Saving Victoria policy and our club faces fines of up to $125,000 for breaching this Policy.
4. Victorian government legislation states that Police Officers and Victorian Teachers are exempt from obtaining a Working with Children check, why is the Life Saving Victoria asking me to get a WWC check?
Victorian Police Officers and Teachers already go through a lengthy police check to be employed in these positions. Unfortunately these checks are administrated by your current employer only and does not apply to any volunteer organisations. Your current employer would be contacted if there was to be a breach of the law but your volunteer organisations would not be advised. As we have just recently advised our members of this change a Post Office Application receipt will be accepted from all teachers and police officers only.
5. Can l renew my membership with the Working with Children Post Office application receipt? (not applicable to Teachers and Police Officers)
No you will not be able to submit your Membership renewal form with a Working with Children Post Office Receipt, you must wait until you have received your Working with Children card.
6. I received my renewal form and the Member Protection area is highlighted?
If Section 3 of your membership renewal form “member protection form” was highlighted this means the club does not have any record of your Working with Children check. If your form was not highlighted this means we have received your Assessment Notice from the Department of Justice.
I have a Working with Children Card but do not have the Life Saving Club listed as a Volunteer organisation?
Please CLICK HERE to download an update details form, complete section 1 & 5 and submit with your membership forms and a photocopy of your card. These forms will be available on registration day.
Finally, we understand that some members may find this a hassle and extremely confusing but we need to remember that this process is about providing the best care and safe environment for our members under the age of 18.
