Round 20

League Women – Eagles v Tracy Village Jets

Danielle Totham put the Tracy Village Jets on the road to a 75-44 victory over the Eagles by scoring 10 of her game high 19 points in the first quarter. Totham ignited a 25-11 run that proved too much of a gap for the Eagles to overcome for the remainder of the game. The Birds matched the Bombers in the second quarter, but the score line at half time still favoured the Jets 42-28. The Bombers made sure they maintained that advantage in the second half by outscoring the Birds 33-16 for their 22nd consecutive win. Backing up Totham were Sam Rioli with 16, Tikesa Docherty-Cole 12 and Rachael Park 10. Trish Graham was the only Eagle in double figures with 13.

Lightning v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels pulled a rabbit out of the hat to overcome upset minded Lightning 56-50. The Rebels trailed for most of the game and it wasn’t until the last quarter when they charged home to victory on a 21-12 run sparked by Ambah Kowcun. Kowcun hit a trey to start the fourth quarter and they were away, holding the Lighting to just 12 for the term. Lightning had begun the game well with a 19-11 first quarter run, but their lead slowly slipped away from them as the Rebels kept up the pressure through Kowcun and Edith Boundry. Boundry finished up with a game high 20 and Kowcun 15. Kira Pendlebury hit a team high 13 for the Lightning.

Ansett v Razzle

Elizabeth Paice from Ansett hit a League high 33 points while leading the Blues to a 60-50 win against the Razzle. The win keeps the Blues one game in front of the Lightning in the battle for the fourth spot in the upcoming playoffs. With only three games remaining Ansett seems to have a better schedule. Paice hit 15 of her points in the first half as the Blues took a slim 30-27 lead. In the second half Paice added 18 as the Blues raced away on a 30-23 run for victory. Clancy Dorman added 10 in support of Paice while Erin Boyd put up 17 for the Razzle.

Ladder:                                                            Tracy Village Jets 17-0, Eagles 11-6, Uni Rebels 9-7-1, Ansett 6-11, Lightning 5-12, & Razzle 3-14

Next Week Round 15:                                  Thursday: Uni Rebels v Lightning 7:45pm. Friday: Razzle v Ansett 6:15pm & Tracy Village Jets v Eagles 7:45pm

League Men – Lightning v Uni Rebels

The Uni Rebels had to scramble in the last quarter to overhaul the Lightning 85-78. With a couple of teams waiting for opportunities to overtake the Rebels on the ladder they had to pull out the stops to shut down the Lightning. Lance Schmidt and Jake Kirby provided the spark that lifted the Rebels in the last quarter as they staged a 26-14 run that wiped out a five point Lightning lead that proved to be a winner. Tyler Jefferson led the Rebels with another fine shooting display for 28 points with Kirby on 17, Schmidt & Brad Jachmann 12 each and Marcus Ch’ng 10. Shaquille Hohipa-Wilson top scored for the Lightning with 29, Harry Fuge 16 and Craig Martin 15.

Tracy Village Jets v Razzle

The Razzle got the biggest scalp of their season when they knocked off the hottest team in the competition. The Green and Gold beat the Tracy Village Jets 70-67 in a boil-over that is a major setback for the Bombers who had recently put themselves in a position to possibly wrestle the minor premiership away from the Uni Rebels. The Razzle shut that door with this upset win. Coach and player Rob Oliver led his outfit with a game high 21, David Carroll 17 and Israil Claridge hit his highest season total with 14. The Razzle had a 12 point lead at halftime 36-24, but then had to weather a big challenge from the Bombers as Travis Ellis and Jesse Bell staged a fightback. Unfortunately for the Bombers it wasn’t enough and the Razzle hung on with Claridge hitting a couple of crucial shots at the end of the game. Jett Sukcharoen led the Jets with 21, Ellis finished with 13 and Bell 12. The teams meet again this coming Thursday night.

Eagles v Ansett

Ansett forfeited to the Eagles 20-0.

Next Week Round 15:                                   Thursday: Razzle v Tracy Village Jets 6:15pm. Friday: Uni Rebels v Lightning 6:15pm & Ansett v Eagles 7:45pm
