SEABL ALL D-LEAGUE TEAMS

With the SEABL D-League Grand Finals to be played this weekend, the highest individual awards have been handed out to the best players of the 2011 season. In the men’s competition, Mark Breda, Taylor Dyson, Marty Vahala, Adam Knott and Adam Blackmore received the honour of being named in the All D-League Team while the women’s All D-League team consists of Prue Scott, Billie Lucas, Bridget Deery, Sam Drescher and Chelsie Bull.

The men’s side consists of two players from the Grand Final contender, the Nunawading Spectres in Blackmore and Breda. Breda earned selection with a double-double average of 10.1 points and 10.6 rebounds a game. With 16.4 points a game, Breda’s team-mate Blackmore sits third overall for most points in the league while also finishing fifth for rebounds in his debut year.

Opposing the two Spectres players on the weekend will be Dyson from the Knox Raiders. He averaged the second best point average in the competition with 17.4 a game to go along with 2.2 assists and will be looking for his first title in his second year at SEABL level.

Vahala was Sandringham’s biggest offensive weapon, averaging 16.1pts at 45% from the field to place him fourth on the overall points list, with a personal best of 29 coming against Knox in May.

Rounding out the top five, Knott represents the Kilsyth Cobras and tops the overall list for rebounds with 11.1 a game through the regular season. He fell just short of a double-double average with 9.6 points but an 18pts and 21reb effort against Bendigo shows how capable he is.

With four debutants in the All D-League team this year, only Lady Blues Chelsie Bull has achieved two consecutive nominations. With 2.7 assists a game, she sits third on the overall list for the year while averaging just under 13 points and 6.7 rebounds as well. Recording three games of over 20 points for the Frankston Lady Blues, Bull was an integral part of the Frankston team this season.

Deery from the Dandenong Rangers has averaged 11.4 points and 3.2 rebounds in her third year with the league and will be looking to help topple Billie Lucas and the Knox Raiders in the Grand Final on Sunday.

Lucas sits third for most points this season with 14.3 a game. She has had six games of over 20 points, including 22 against Nunawading in the Semi Final which will worry her opponents this weekend.

Drescher continues her successful debut season as the only woman to average a double-double through the regular season, with a personal best against Ballarat of 25 points and 20 rebounds.

Finally, sitting on top for most points per game this year is Scott from the Ballarat Rush who had an average of 18.4. Incredibly, she had just one game with less than 10 points after starting her season with four 20+ point games. After five years playing in the Championship division, Prue moved to the D League team to help nurture the Ballarat youngsters.
