Round Four – Challenge Season

League WOMEN –Tracy Village Jets v Ansett

Tracy Village Jets claimed first place on the ladder in the DBA Challenge Season with a 55-42 win over Ansett on Saturday night. The Round 3 matches were put on hold earlier in the week due to the wet weather and will be rescheduled. Shannyn Ah Sam chipped in with 18 and Jade Keightley had 9 for the Jets while Eloise Drescher was the lone standout in double figures for Ansett with 10.

Jaylene Bonson hit a season high 35 as the Uni Rebels ran roughshod over the Eagles 65-45 for their second win of the competition. The running Rebels forged a 13-9 first quarter lead before exploding for 20 more in the second quarter as Bonson and Jaylene Boundry (9) peppered the hoop to give the Rebels a 33-16 lead at half time. The Eagles won the third quarter 17-13 behind the shooting of Greta Hollis-Stephensen who hit 9 of her team high 20, but the birds needed more firepower to overcome the Rebels and it wasn’t forthcoming.

League MEN – Razzle v Uni Rebels

Jarrod Sheppard put up 41 big ones to help the Uni Rebels power home to a 90-65 demolition of the Razzle. Sheppard was on fire from downtown, hitting eight treys during his shooting spree. Ethan Kennedy and Tommy Blake added 17 and 12 in support. After a 19 all first quarter the Rebels moved into second gear with a 24-13 effort just before half time to claim a 43-32 lead that the Razzle never got close to for the remainder of the game. David Carroll top scored for the Razzle with 23 with Mayon Jook (17) and James Panton (13) also getting into double figures.

Nick Pattrick and Travis Ellis carved up the Warriors with a combined 56pt effort as the Tracy Village Jets overwhelmed the Maroons 91-47 for their third win in a row. In only his second season of League play Pattrick hit a career high 34. Teamed up with veteran Ellis (22) the two players are giving opposing teams match up problems, especially when their team mates Michael MacLean, Clint Kononen and Ryan Marshall have also been known to show glimpses of scoring ability. The Jets set off on their winning way with a 24-12 first quarter and never looked back running up a 45-24 half time lead before cruising to victory. Robert Oliver hit 13 for the Warriors with Jay Johnson and Tendayi Muyambi adding 10 each.

Ansett rebounded from last week’s loss to the Jets to pound Lightning 89-42 to keep a hold on second spot on the ladder. Matty Hunt led the way for the Blues with 31 points and he was backed up by newcomer Mitch O’Donohue with 18 and stalwart Jake Feeney with 11. Ansett led by 5 after one quarter of play 16-11, but turned on the thrusters for the rest of the game scoring 20+ points in all three quarters while keeping Lightning in arrears with a solid line of defense. Cameron Bailey hit a team and season high of 19.
