Round 20

League Women - Razzle Storm v Ansett (Thursday)

Ansett set their sights on a win early in their 84-34 victory over the Razzle Storm on Thursday night. Rattling off 22 points to just 11 for the Storm in the first quarter the Blues were well on their way to a win. The second quarter proved disastrous for the Storm as they only managed 8 points while the Blues hit 18 to take a 21 point advantage at half time 40-19. Tal Yakov (28.1ppg) was on fire hitting a game high 34 and now leads in every statistical category except for free throws made! Backing up Yakov was Tamiyah Perkins with 14. Erin Boyd (17ppg) led the Storm with 20 and Lailani Triffitt hit 18.

Eagles v Lightning (Friday)

Lightning kept their chances to make the playoffs with a serious 78-58 thumping of the Eagles. Five players hit double figures as the Lightning beat the Birds for the second time this season. This means next week’s games become critical for the Lightning who play Ansett and must win and then rely on the Eagles to beat Palmerston. Lightning are on a roll having won three of their last four, but the Eagles have lost their last three making the hoped for outcome next week very doubtful. Peta Bailey (8.6ppg) led the Lightning with a season high 19 followed by 18 from Dominique Carbone, 13 from Rebecca Thorne, 12 by Kahlee Stanislaus and 10 from Kira Pendlebury. For the Birds it was Lillian Williams (6.8ppg) with 14, Ieasha Friel 13 and Michelle Friel & Jaylene Boundry on 12 each.

Palmerston Power v Tracy Village Jets (Friday)

Grand Final favourites, the Tracy Village Jets, dumped the Palmerston Power 78-34 for their 14th win in a row! The last time the Bombers lost was Round 4 back in August. This match-up was a solid team game with every player scoring 4 or more points with Tikesa Docherty-Cole (19.6ppg) leading the way with 22 and Tanjia Dhu on 12. Christine West (6.1ppg) led the Power with a season high 14.

Ladder:                                  Tracy Village Jets 16-2, Ansett 13-4, Eagles 10-7, Palmerston Power 7-10, Lightning 7-10, Razzle Storm 5-12 & Uni Rebels 2-15

Next week Rd 21:              Thursday – Eagles v Palmerston Power 6:30pm. Friday Razzle Storm v Uni Rebels 6:30pm & Lightning v Ansett 8:00pm Bye: Tracy Village Jets

Men

Round 20

League Men – Essington Cannons v Uni Rebels (Thursday)

The Essington Cannons won their seventh game in a row when they toppled the league leading Uni Rebels 112-109 in a highly entertaining match-up. The last time the Cannons lost it was a close one to the Rebels in Round 13. So the challenge has been thrown down to the Rebels and the Cannons look like the only side with enough firepower to upstage the Rebels in the finals. Deba George (25.2ppg) hit his highest total of the season with 40 points (including 6 treys) to lead the charge. Tobiasz Hose (24.4ppg) nailed 27, Travis Ellis 20 and Deola D’Brown Folarin 17 in support. A solid first half put the Cannons up 65-51 and although the Rebels did fight back in the second half they fell just short of stealing the game at the end. A possible preview of the GF. For the Rebels Tim Morris (29.1ppg) put up 39 points, Spencer Coleman 32, Mitch Garton 18 and Marcus Ch’ng 12.

Razzle Storm v Ansett (Thursday)

Ansett thundered home to a 106-80 victory over the Razzle Storm. The Blues are destined to finish the season out of the playoffs making them probably the best team not to make playoffs in recent history. The Storm were down by eight points 24-16 after one quarter and trailed by fifteen at the half 54-39. Things didn’t get any better in the second half as the Blues steadily pulled away for an easy win. Jerron Jamerson, the league’s leading scorer (39.7ppg), hit 44, Mitch O’Donoghue 25 and Robert Skinner 10. Fred Williams (278.4ppg) & Jeremy Baden hit 24each for the Storm with Chris Mahlstedt adding 16.

Tracy Village Jets v Palmerston Power (Friday)

A season high 40 points from Willie Shackleford (21.5ppg) led all scorers as the Palmerston Power powered past the Tracy Village Jets 119-59…60pts! Garrett Hall added 31 and Aaron Simpson had 15. Dante Ah Sam had a team high 12 for the Jets with Joel Stevens on 11 and Jake Geer on 10.

Lightning v Eagles (Friday)

The Eagles beat Lightning for the second time in a row as they cruised past them 113-64 to hang on to third place on the ladder. The Lightning just couldn’t keep up with the Birds who scored on almost every possession during the match. 28 points from Anthony Golden (32.9ppg) led the onslaught with Joseph Johnson (17.9ppg) nailing 26 (including 6 treys), Jordan Sing 17, David Oates 16 and James Smith 15. Jesse Bell (21.8ppg) hit a team high 15 for the Lightning with Dylan De Santis & Brodie Hertel each getting 11.

Ladder:                                  Uni Rebels 17-3, Essington Cannons 15-5, Eagles 14-6, Palmerston Power 13-7, Ansett 11-8, Lightning 5-14, Razzle Storm 3-16 & Tracy Village Jets 1-19

Next week Rd 21:       Thursday – Essington Cannons vTracy Village Jets 6:30pm & Eagles v Palmerston Power 8:00pm. Friday – Lightning v Ansett 6:30pm & Razzle Storm v Uni Rebels 8:00pm.
